Between The Moon And Sun Diorama DIY

Between the Moon and Sun Diorama DIY

Creativity and imaginative play are at the top of our to-do list! My daughters Harper, 7 and Lennon, 5, love everything about bringing their imagination to life. We love finding ways of creating a world and characters to play with together. This DIY diorama is a fun way to get creative by building an environment for your favorite creatures to play and explore together. We made our very own Slumberkins Dragon and their home between the moon and sun!

Instructions

Step 1

Print out your Slumberkins Dragon Coloring sheet. Cut out Dragon.

Step 2

Using the cut-out of Dragon, trace their body onto a piece of dark blue felt. Trace their wings and out oval shape of their head on the second piece of blue felt. Using the light blue felt, cut a small oval shape for the inside of Dragon’s face (a bit smaller than the dark blue oval). Cut a small oval (the same size as the light blue oval) in half for Dragon’s snout. Using a small gold circle sequins piece, cut a crescent shape for Dragon’s moon detail on their forehead. *For a simpler option, color in your cut-out of Dragon instead of creating out of felt.

Step 3

Carefully glue your pieces together—first, glue Dragon’s wings on the back of their body. Then glue the small purple snout onto the light blue oval. Glue the light blue oval onto the dark blue oval to create Dragon’s face. Add ears by gluing two blue flower sequins to the back of Dragon’s head and glue the crescent moon on their forehead. Attach the Dragon's head to their body.

Step 4

Using your skinny black marker, draw in Dragon’s eyes and nose. Complete your Dragon (felt or colored) by gluing or taping it to a craft stick.

Step 5

Use the skein of floss, needle, and large pom poms to create hanging planets. Tie a knot at the end of your floss and use the needle to string it through the pom pom. Tie the pom pom to a large fuzzy stick. Repeat this step for each pom pomp, varying the length of the floss.

Step 7

Get creative! Decorate your space between the moon and stars however you’d like! What things will Dragon like to play with?

Once your diorama is finished, you are ready to play. Bring your Dragon to life and take them on an adventure through the world you built. The best part about making your own diorama, you can add more creatures to play with, change the environment, or create another. Let your creativity and imagination lead the way! We hope this activity brings you as much joy and hours of fun as it brought us!
