DIY Watercolor Turkey
Use the Wondrous Watercolor palette to create a beautiful and colorful Thanksgiving turkey! A secret ingredient from your kitchen will give your turkey feathers a unique and fun texture. Once you’re finished, your turkey will be the perfect addition to your holiday decor!
Materials:
- Watercolor Paper
- Black, permanent marker
- Wondrous Watercolor Kit
- Paintbrush
- Salt
- Scissors
- Cardboard tube
- Brown, washable paint
- Googly eyes
- Orange felt
- Red fuzzy stick
- Hot glue gun (*always ask an adult to help you use a hot glue gun!)
How to Make It:
Step 1
The first step in making your turkey is to draw the feathers! Use a black, permanent marker to draw your feathers onto watercolor paper. You can add details like lines down the middle of each feather if you want! You want your feather shape to be slightly taller than your cardboard tube, which will be the turkey’s body.
Step 2
Next, paint your feathers! Use watercolor paints and lots of water to fill in the feather shape you drew. Use water to make your paint really wet. While your paint is still very wet, sprinkle some salt onto it! Allow the paint to dry completely before moving onto the next step.
Step 3
Once your watercolor paint has dried completely, use your hand to brush the salt off of your paper! The salt absorbs some of the color as the paint dries, leaving a textured effect on your feathers. Next, use scissors to cut out the feather shape.
Step 4
Use brown, washable paint to paint a cardboard tube, like a toilet paper tube. Allow the paint to dry completely and then add a face to the front of it. Use a glue gun to add two eyes, a triangle-shaped beak cut from felt, and a bent fuzzy stick waddle.
Step 5
Finally, glue the back of the cardboard tube to the turkey feathers using hot glue! Line up the bottom of the tube with the bottom of the feathers so that your turkey can stand up. You can use your turkey as a decoration, or even as a part of your Thanksgiving table place settings!
Enjoy your turkey on Thanksgiving!
