Father's Day Trading Card DIY

Kid Made Modern's open-ended Trading Card Kit is a really fun way to share your feelings with those who serve as fathers in your life. Come up with a list of favorite characteristics and qualities and turn them into clever trading cards. You can simply give them to dads as a unique gift or go one step further and use them to play a game together.

Steps:

1. Develop a list of favorite qualities and characteristics -- Do a little brainstorming and come up with qualities and characteristics that you love about the dads in your life. Some can be funny, some can be serious -- just be as creative as you'd like! Here are a few we came up with that might jumpstart your thinking: Not Snoring, Burger Grilling, Negotiating, Clothes Folding, Monster Tag Playing, Creative Storytelling, Family Photo Taking, Navigating, Rule Enforcing, etc.

Then assign achieved values for each of these qualities for the following categories: Strength (1 - 50), Difficulty (1 - 25), Uniqueness (1 - 25), and Overall Rating (1 - 10). For example, if your dad makes an awesome blue cheese burger, you could say:

Burger Grilling

- Strength -- 40 (maybe mom makes it a little better ....)

- Difficulty -- 22 (blue cheese burgers are harder to make than regular burgers)

- Uniqueness -- 15 (you've seen a few of those recipes floating around)

- Overall Rating -- 8 (it's still one of your favorite burgers)

You can come up with your own categories of values, just keep them consistent for all of the different qualities and characteristics.

2. Create trading cards -- Using the gel pens in the kit, write the name of dad's quality at the top of the card, draw an image, design symbols to coordinate with each of the value categories, and then write out the values of the characteristic or quality on the lined area.

3. Trading game rules -- If you come up with enough cards, try this fun game with your family. Shuffle the cards and distribute evenly among the players. Each player holds their cards so they can see the top card only. Dad goes first by reading out a category from the top card -- hey, it's Father's Day! The other players then read out that same category from their top cards. The player with the highest value in that category wins all the cards and places them at the bottom of their deck. The winner then picks the next category from their next card.

If two cards share the same value in a category, those cards are placed in the middle and the same player picks a new category from the next card. The winner of that hand picks up the cards in the middle as well. The family member with all the cards at the end wins!
