Valentine Flower Bouquets craft tutorial

Flowers are one of my favorite things! From growing them, to receiving bouquets and even making them myself. Which is exactly why we’re going to learn how to make multiple types of flowers and greenery out of paper with some additional materials from our Kid Made Modern Valentine Craft Bundle.

Following these simple step by step instructions will teach you how to make rolled roses, daises and even flower petals from a heart cut out, all perfect to craft custom bouquets for every Valentine in your life this year! Rather you’re using our printable templates or drawing your own floral shapes, each bouquet can be bundled and customized in tons of ways and I’m excited to explore all the options with you today!

Rolled Roses Bouquet

Supplies:

• Construction Paper in Colors of your choice (included in Valentine Craft Bundle)
• Popsicle Sticks (included in Valentine Craft Bundle)
• Glue Dots (included in Valentine Craft Bundle)
• Decorative Tape (included in Valentine Craft Bundle)
• Embroidery Thread or Ribbon
• Scissors
• Pencil

To create a rolled rose bouquet:

1. To start, we’ll be creating our rolled paper roses by drawing a spiral on your construction paper, approximately 6” in diameter with 1” sections circling into the center of your spiral.  
2. Cut out your spiral so you have a ribbon of paper approximately 1” thick.
3. Now it’s time to roll! Starting from the pointed area or tail of your spiral, start rolling the paper onto itself. Continue rolling the paper, keeping the inside edge of the spiral flush as you roll. As your roll grows, it may start to expand or shift, hold the top and bottom of the spiral between your pointer finger and thumb as you roll the paper to keep it intact. If your rolled paper begins to unravel, just start again!
4. As your roll grows, you’ll get to the center of your spiral, attach a glue dot to the center/end of the spiral and place it flush on the bottom of the rolled-up paper. Your roll may be a bit loose at this point and that’s fine! As you add the glue dot to the bottom, continue to hold the top and bottom of the roll and slowly loosen your grip to let the center of the roll unravel slightly. This will give your rose more space between the paper petals and let it grow a little. 
5. Once you’ve let your roll unravel a little, add one or two more glue dots into the bottom layers of paper to stop it from unraveling any further. Now your rose is complete, just follow these same steps to make as many roses as you want in your bouquet. 
6. Next, draw triangular leaf shapes on a different color construction paper. Cut out the drawn leaves and set aside for assembling our bouquet. 
7. If you are opting to use our template, cut out the eucalyptus greenery and trace it on your construction paper. Cut it out and set aside to assemble our bouquet.
8. Using 2 popsicle sticks, we will create the stem for our roses. Attach a glue dot to on end of the first popsicle stick and adhere the second popsicle stick end to the same glue dot. This will elongate your popsicle stick stem. 
9. Once your popsicle sticks stems are complete, attach a glue dot to the bottom of each rose and add them to the top of your new stems. 
10. Taking your triangular leaf shapes that were cut out earlier, attach each leaf with a glue dot onto the popsicle sticks, one or two leaves per popsicle stick is plenty but feel free to add as many leaves as you like!
11. Now it’s time to assemble, cluster your roses with popsicle stick stems and your eucalyptus greenery at the bottom of the stems so the top fans out slightly. Using your decorative tape, wrap it sticky side down 2-3 times around the base of your stems to attach them together. 
12. Lastly, using your embroidery thread or ribbon, tie a cute bow around the decorative tape for an added bonus and make it feel like a gift! Now your beautiful paper roses are ready for your valentine!

Paper Daisy Bouquet

Supplies:

• Daisy Flower Template (or you can draw your own daisy shape)
• Leaf Template (or you can draw your own leaves)
• Construction Paper in varying colors (some options included in Valentine Craft Bundle)
• Fuzzy Sticks in varying colors (included in Valentine Craft Bundle)
• Pom Poms (included in Valentine Craft Bundle)
• Glue Dots (included in Valentine Craft Bundle)
• Postcard + Stickers + Clothespin Optional (included in Valentine Craft Bundle)

To make your paper daisy bouquets:

1. Start with cutting out the daisy templates if you’re using them or draw your own daisies in three different sizes. Then trace them on your construction paper and cut them out. You will need at least 2 daisies per flower or 4 of each if you want to layer them. We used multiple colors of construction paper for a colorful bouquet, but any color wills work!
2. Next, cut out your tear drop leaf templates, trace them onto your construction paper and cut them out. 
3. To assemble a daisy, take 2 of the large daisy cutouts and 2 of the small cutouts, using a glue dot in the center, layer the small daisy onto the large one. Do this for both large daisy cutouts. 
4. Next, place a glue dot in the center of the small daisy and add a pom pom to be the center of your flower. 
5. Flip your flower over and add a glue dot to the center of the backside, place a fuzzy stick on top and add the second layered daisy on top, sandwiching the fuzzy stick between the two daisies. 
6. Take your leaf shapes and using a glue dot attach them in varying locations on the fuzzy stick to create greenery on your stem, placing two leaves in the same location but facing opposite directions. Add as many leaves as you desire!
7. Follow the previous steps to make as many flowers as you’d like for your bouquet. 
8. To add a few stems of greenery to your bouquet, add leaves to additional fuzzy sticks in the same manner as the daisies, but add leaves to the top instead of daisies. 
9. Using a painted clothespin from the Valentine Craft Bundle, clip all the stems in the middle to keep them attached and fanned into a beautiful bouquet! 
10. If you want to add a sweet note to your valentine, use one of the postcards from the Valentine Craft Bundle, decorate it with stickers and pom poms and add it to your clothespin. 
11. Lastly, gift your finished bouquet to your friends for Valentine’s Day!

Heart Shaped Petal Bouquet

Supplies:

• Construction Paper in various colors (options included in Valentine Craft Bundle)
• Rhinestones (included in Valentine Craft Bundle)
• Glue Dots (included in Valentine Craft Bundle)
• Fuzzy Stick (included in Valentine Craft Bundle)
• Decorative Tape (included in Valentine Craft Bundle)
• Paper Straws 

To make your heart shaped floral bouquet:

1. Making flowers from hearts can be done year ‘round, but they make the perfect flower for Valentine’s Day! Start by cutting out the heart templates and tracing them onto your construction paper. If you are foregoing the template, draw your hearts directly onto your construction paper, attempting to keep them similar in shape and size. 

You will need 5 hearts per flower.

1. Once your hearts are all cut out, take a popsicle stick or straight edge and center it in your heart, lining up both points. Now bend one side of the heart up against the popsicle stick to create a straight bend down the center of the heart. Continue this step for all your hearts. 
2. Using glue dots, layer your hearts on top of one another in a circular pattern keeping all the points of the hearts in the middle, this will create a floral shape. 
3. Add a rhinestone in the center of the layered heart flower, you can also use a pom pom or paper circle for this step.
4. Once your flowers are created, flip them over and tape a paper straw to the back using decorative tape. 
5. Next, it’s time to add greenery to your bouquet and freehand cutting organic blades of grass is just what you need. Feel free to draw these large blades first if you want, otherwise cut from the bottom of your construction paper in a long line to create a skinny triangular shape with a point at the top. Cut 2 in different sizes per flower. 
6. Using a glue dot, attach the long grass blades to the front and back of the paper straw, one glue dot per leaf should hold them steady. 
7. Cluster your paper straw stems together, fanning the flowers out slightly at the top and use a fuzzy stick to wrap around the base of the stems two times. This will keep it secure, bend the ends of the fuzzy stick into loops and twist to create a bow shape. 

Your heart flower bouquet is now ready to share with friends and family!
