Meet Our Teachers
Lisa Pennell has spent the past six school years teaching art in Chicago Public Schools. She went to college for art and teaching right in downtown Chicago. Ms. Pennell has also been teaching summer art classes for seven years, both with her school and the Chicago Parks District. She loves all kinds of art and helping others learn to love it too!
Mrs. King has more than 21 years of experience teaching art—11 years for the Chicago Park District and the last 11 for the Chicago Public Schools. In 2010, she was selected “Most Outstanding Teacher of the Year” at Kellogg Elementary. Mrs. King aims to give students a way to develop their creative expression while cultivating friendships and experiencing the wonders of nature.
Joslyn Villalpando is a working artist and art educator in Chicago. She spent seven years teaching elementary art. While teaching, she completed her master's degree at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago (SAIC). While there, her small research group of young participants grew into a little community that learned to weave, sew, embroider, and dye while sharing the stories, memories, thoughts, and ideas that arise when creating together.

I am definitely signing her up for more classes. She loves [the classes] and I love how everything we need for class was just shipped directly to us!" - Nellie, Age 4
"I just wanted to take a moment to tell you how much Lucy has LOVED the rainbow art class!! The teacher is amazing with the kiddos, and the projects have been perfect. Easy enough for the kids to do by themselves, but challenging enough to keep them engaged. Lucy has done a few different types of virtual activities since we’ve been at home, and this is the first time she has been so eager to log on so that doesn’t miss a moment. It is clear that the teacher loves working with kids...she is so engaging and kind. Thank you so much for such a fantastic class!!" - Lucy, Age 6
