ABOUT THE TEACHER
Fall Session 1 Instructor - Joslyn Villalpando
Joslyn Villalpando is a working artist and art educator in Chicago. After studying fine art and art education at the University of Cincinnati, she spent 7 years teaching elementary art. While teaching, she completed her master's degree at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago (SAIC), studying the impact of craft and fiber art on art education. Her small research group of young participants grew into a little community while learning to weave, sew, embroider, and dye; sharing the stories, memories, thoughts, and ideas that arise when creating together.
Fall Session 2 Instructor - Lisa Pennell
Lisa Pennell has spent the past 6 school years teaching art in Chicago Public Schools. She went to college for art and teaching right in downtown Chicago. Ms. Pennell has also been teaching summer art classes for 7 years, both with her school and the Chicago Parks District. Some of her favorite things in art are to work with clay and she loves taking photos. She loves all kinds of art and helping others learn to love it too!
Fall Session 3 Instructor - Mrs. King
Mrs. King has more than 21 years combined experience in teaching art—11 years for the Chicago Park District and the last 11 for the Chicago Public Schools. In 2010, she was selected “Most Outstanding Teacher of the Year” at Kellogg Elementary. In 2012, Ellen decided to create a summer program where children could be inspired to develop their creativity. Her vision was to bring learning and fun together during the summer months in a pressure free environment. Mrs. King aims to give students a way to develop their creative expression while cultivating friendships and experiencing the wonders of nature.
