Crafts For 2 Year Olds

You’re never too young to make a masterpiece! Two is a terrific age to begin exploring the wonderful world of arts and crafts. Your little one will build important visual and tactile skills, and have a ton of colorful fun along the way! Kid Made Modern has a collection of “first” craft kits designed with the youngest crafters in mind. Little artists will learn so much making crafts with varying colors, shapes, and textures. Here are a few of our favorite crafts for young budding artists.

Block Printing with Fruits and Vegetable

Enjoy craft time in the kitchen! This easy-to-do art project uses fruits and vegetables to make colorful block prints. Your little one can learn more about their favorite foods while creating a pretty print.

To start this craft, head to the fridge. Have your kiddo pick out fruits and vegetables with interesting shapes and textures. We recommend mushrooms, carrots, celery, and lemon. Cut the carrot and celery in half lengthwise, and cut a slice of mushroom and lemon.

Next, pick out your paints! Kid Made Modern’s Washable Paint Set features twelve vibrant colors to choose from. Squeeze your chosen paints onto a plate, and use the brush to apply an even coat of paint to the bottom of each of your cut fruits and vegetables. Prepare a piece of white paper as your canvas, and prepare to print!

Press each fruit and vegetable firmly on your paper. Slowly remove the fruit or veggie stamp from the paper, and repeat the stamping process until the entire paper is covered with a pattern. Fill the page with a colorful pattern full of unique shapes!

Magic Watercolor Letters and Numbers Activity 

Bring some enchantment to your craft time! This magically appearing craft is especially exciting for little ones, and is a super fun way for your young one to practice a variety of skills, including letter and number recognition and writing. 

To begin, you’ll need a sheet of white construction paper (we recommend Kid Made Modern’s Artist Pad,) and a white crayon, which can be found in Kid Made Modern’s Crayon Library.

Use the white crayon on the white paper to write letters, numbers, sight words, shapes, and/or math facts. If it’s tricky to see the white crayon, use a flashlight to illuminate the paper as you write. The white on white writing will become a top-secret, invisible message — but not for long!

Use Kid Made Modern’s Wondrous Watercolor Kit to paint over the top of the crayon. The watercolor kit features over 30 beautiful colors to choose from. The wax in the crayon resists the watery paint and the paint can’t stick to it. As you paint, everything you wrote will be magically revealed!

Bead Color Sorting DIY

Teach your two-year-old all about colors with the help of Kid Made Modern’s My First Jewelry Kit. The beads in this kit work great for tiny hands, and are the perfect tool for this color sorting activity!

To set up the sorting station, you’ll need six wooden skewers. Use Kid Made Modern’s Washable Paint Set to paint each skewer a different hue, from red to blue. Once the colorful skewers have dried, roll out a large log of clay and stick the sewers point-down into the clay. Alternatively, you can substitute the clay for a styrofoam block. 

Next, open up the My First Jewelry Kit! Have your kiddo thread each bead onto the skeer with the matching color. Threading beads is a great way for toddlers to strengthen their fine motor skills, and they’ll learn about the names of each color along the way!

Sticky Paper Collage 

Collage art is the perfect activity to encourage creativity in young ones! This mess-free collage is tactile and large in scale, making it the perfect project for our youngest crafters. All you’ll need for this fun activity is clear contact paper, painter’s tape, and My First Arts and Crafts Library.

Begin by cutting a large piece of clear contact paper. Remove the paper backing and lay the contact paper down, sticky side up. Place painters tape along the four edges of the contact paper, and then tape the contact paper to the wall so that the sticky side of the contact paper is facing out.

Next, it’s time to collage! Choose lightweight and colorful craft items from Kid made Modern’s My First Arts and Crafts Library. Stick the items onto the sticky paper to create your collage. Little ones will love the fun and freedom this form provides — and they’ll develop tactile skills and learn about textures as they create!
