Crafts for Kids at Home

Exploring the ‘great indoors’ has never been more fun! Even if the whole family is stuck inside, crafting can help kids create a colorful and imaginative world from inside their own home. With the help of Kid Made Modern craft kits and art supplies, you’ll have a blast creating these fun and simple projects! Here are a few of our favorite crafts that kids of all agesåç can do at home.

DIY Popcorn Art

Celebrate movie night with this fun “pop” art! Draw inspiration from a beloved movie night snack to create this fun and simple craft: DIY Popcorn Art. Using Kid Made Modern’s Arts and Crafts Supply Library, you can create deliciously sweet art!

Begin by selecting a piece of colorful construction paper—red makes a great color contrast with the yellow popcorn! Next, it’s time to arrange your materials.

Select yellow pom poms from the Arts and Crafts Supply Library, and arrange them in a popcorn-like formation. Next, take a piece of white felt from the Supply Library and use scissors to cut the felt into long, thin vertical strips. Arrange the strips underneath the pom poms, with one horizontal strip at the bottom. This will become your popcorn bucket! 

Use the glue included in the kit to glue down your pom pom popcorn and felt bucket. Cut a round piece of felt out of the leftover white felt, and glue onto the center of the “bucket”. Use a pen or marker to write Popcorn on the circular label. Paste on to your felt bucket and voila! You’ll have popcorn art that’s good enough to eat!

Block Printing with Fruits and Vegetable

Enjoy craft time in the kitchen! This simple craft uses fruits and vegetables from the fridge to make a colorful block print. Your little one can learn more about their favorite foods while creating a pretty print.

To start this craft, head to the fridge! Have your kiddo pick out fruits and vegetables with interesting shapes and textures. We recommend mushrooms, carrots, celery, and lemon. Cut the carrot and celery in half lengthwise, and cut a slice of mushroom and lemon.

Next, pick out your paints! Kid Made Modern’s Washable Paint Set features twelve vibrant colors to choose from, so making a vibrant work of art is a breeze! 

Squeeze your chosen paints onto a plate, and use the brush to apply an even coat of paint to the bottom of each of your cut fruits and vegetables. Prepare a piece of white paper as your canvas, and prepare to print!

Press each fruit and vegetable firmly on your paper. Slowly remove the fruit or veggie stamp from the paper, and repeat the stamping process until the entire paper is covered with a pattern. Fill the page with a colorful pattern full of unique shapes!

Kusama Art Project

Yoyai Kusama, also known as the “Princess of Polka Dots”, is a Japanese contemporary artist with a specialty in shapes. Make your own Kusama-inspired art project, with the help of some recycled cardboard and Kid Made Modern’s Studio In A Box. 

To begin, cut up pieces of recycled cardboard and glue the pieces onto a blank piece of paper. This will eventually give the piece texture and allow the polka dots to pop off the page. 

Next, use the kit’s paint brushes and white paint to paint a solid-colored background onto the cardboard and paper. Once the background has dried, it’s time to add the polka dots!

Use the many colorful paints and colored pencils included in the Studio In A Box to create a plethora of colorful polka dots. Add more polka dots to the project over time until the background eventually gets obliterated, just like Yayoi Kusama’s original piece!

Pearl Knotted Bracelet

Pearl knotting is the technique of tying small, overhand knots in between beads. As the name implies, it's how most pearls are strung on a strand. Here, you can use it to spell out some fun baubles and create an adorable bracelet!

Using Kid Made Modern’s Alphabet Charm Jewelry Kit, create your perfect bracelet! Use a scissors to cut out a length of stretchy cord included in the kit. Next, lay out your beautiful beads and decide on a design for your bracelet. 

Tie a few overhand knots on one end of the cord, leaving a small tail to finish the bracelet. Then, slide on your first pattern of shaped beads!

Next, it’s time to form a word! Add the alphabet beads to spell out your desired word, tying overhand knots in between the letters. Depending on how tight you pull the knot, you may need to make a double knot to keep the alphabet beads in place. 

Add the remaining pattern of shaped beads, and then knot the bracelet at its end and tie the two knots together. You’ll have a pearl knotted alphabet bracelet that you’ll L-O-V-E!
